New York City, May 1976: “I was doing a portrait of Dustin Hoffman. I don’t remember why I asked him to come outside, because there was a huge garbage strike, which he, of course, had absolutely nothing to do with. But he was a very good sport about it, and I had a lot to learn about finding an appropriate background.” —Diana Walker Awesome! I didn’t know the story behind this picture and I had no idea it was taken in ‘76. Back in September I posted this picture along with another of him near the trash after the Weatherman bombing had happened next to his apartment in Greenwich Village, and assumed this was taken the same day. Now looking back, he was wearing a different coat. Oops.
